Western Magnesium’s technology overcomes the limitations of current production methods, which are very energy inefficient. It’s also time-consuming, dangerous and labor intensive. Under such processes, magnesium production is performed in batches, which requires the reactor to be emptied, cleaned and readied after each batch of the ingots are formed. By contrast, Western Magnesium’s technology is continuous, allowing for the mass production of magnesium with few of the attendant environmental issues that plague traditional production methods. Inasmuch, Western Magnesium’s technology wins on its merits by producing a high-quality, lower cost, greener product. Currently, Western Magnesium has produced green magnesium in small scale reactors and is in the process of developing technology for upscaling to higher quantities.
