There are two main magnesium refinement processes being used in the world today. 85% of that is done through the Pidgeon process which results in a less pure magnesium and 15% is done through the electrolysis process which creates a purer form of magnesium. Our technology overcomes the inefficiency of current production methods that require large quantities of resources. Moreover, it is time consuming, high-risk, and very labour intensive. This requires the furnace to be emptied, cleaned, and readied for each batch of magnesium produced. This method unnecessarily exposes workers to high potential risks while severely limiting productivity.
Contrast this with Western Magnesium’s technology which eliminates inefficiencies and allows for a continuous, mass production of magnesium. Additionally, our technology reduces the environment, health, and safety risks which challenge markets and production methods, allowing it to stand on its own merit and delivery. Our proprietary methodology will, on a global scale, produce a very cost-effective and environment-friendly magnesium in the market.
Currently, Western Magnesium has successfully produced ‘green’ magnesium in a pilot scale reactor and will continue to demonstrate the technology in a methodical manner to achieve the goal of commercial scale production.
